Transient Solubility Gradients Mediate Oversaturation during Solvent Exchange

چکیده
Solvent exchange facilitates high-density nucleation of sessile nanodroplets or nanobubbles by successively wetting a surface with two solvents contrasting solubility respect to target species. Yet the key physical mechanisms underlying its efficacy have yet be theoretically explained. We develop minimal model for solvent exchange, prototypical example water and ethanol as nitrogen Our calculations show that is mediated transient gradients dominate over intrinsic concentration gradient in incipient moments after exchange. Solubility advect toward substrate during ethanol-water but away from it water-ethanol consistent directionality observed experiments.

Solvent Exchange Leading to Nanobubble Nucleation: A Molecular Dynamics Study
The solvent exchange procedure has become the most-used protocol to produce surface nanobubbles, while the molecular mechanisms behind the solvent exchange are far from being fully understood. In this paper, we build a simple model and use molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the dynamic characteristics of solvent exchange for producing nanobubbles. We find that at the first stage of s...
متن کاملSolubility and solvation in mixed solvent systems
The solubility of solutes in mixed solvents depends primarily on the solvation of the solutes or their constituent ions by the components of the solvent mixtures. Complications may arise if different crystal solvates are formed or if solute-solute interactions are appreciable. In their absence the standard molar Gibbs energies of solution measure the corresponding quantities of solvation, ASOIV...
متن کاملVarious Solvent Systems for Solubility Enhancement of Enrofloxacin
Solubility enhancement of antimicrobial drug enrofloxacin has been studied using a series of co-solvents and surfactants. Aqueous solubility of enrofloxacin could be increased up to 26 times. Co-solvents alone produced only small increase in solubility. However, the combined effect of co-solvents and buffer was synergistic and a large increase in solubility could be attained. Ionic surfactants ...
متن کاملTransient Feedback and Robust Signaling Gradients.
Robust development of biological organisms in the presence of genetic and epi-genetic perturbations is important for time spans short relative to evolutionary time. Gradients of receptor bound signaling morphogens are responsible for patterning formation and development. A variety of inhibitors for reducing ectopic signaling activities are known to exist and their specific role in down-regulati...
متن کاملPredicting the Solubility of Pharmaceutical Cocrystals in Solvent/Anti-Solvent Mixtures.
In this work, the solubilities of pharmaceutical cocrystals in solvent/anti-solvent systems were predicted using PC-SAFT in order to increase the efficiency of cocrystal formation processes. Modeling results and experimental data were compared for the cocrystal system nicotinamide/succinic acid (2:1) in the solvent/anti-solvent mixtures ethanol/water, ethanol/acetonitrile and ethanol/ethyl acet...
